Jae’hot’chila is the Dene name for Berry Point. Berry Point was a gathering place for the Dene people. As this place was rich in resources, it was used for many years. The government of Alberta developed it into a campground. As a result, the CLFN members were restricted from harvesting from this area in the early 2000s. In the past 10-15 years, CLFN has been doing more and more traditional camps there; which is helping to restore the language and culture. Alex Janvier enjoyed going to Berry Point to visit, share and eat traditional foods prepared by the community cooks. This is just one of the paintings inspired by memorable moments at Berry Point.
